Quote:   GeoBlue        Cigna Global

Don’t be stranded by your current health insurance company, enroll today in a GeoBlue Worldwide Medical plan.  Global coverage you can count on wherever you may be.

Your Domestic Insurance Cannot or Will Not do any of this:

For Example:  If you become ill or are injured because of a fall or car accident while abroad, will you be able to get in contact with your domestic carrier?  In the rare case you do; will they tell you where the nearest modern or westernized medical facility or hospital is in; Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia, Brazil or any other part of the world?

If the nearest medical facility is unacceptable will they air evac you to an appropriate medical facility.  Can they coordinate care, use translators or approve a surgery on your behalf?

The answer to all of these questions is; NO they can’t, and NO they won’t.  You need them late at night or on the weekend, maybe it’s an extended holiday?  Will they even except your call … What now?

Health insurance companies are simply not equipped to handle any type of international situation.  On the other hand, International Medical insurance companies like GeoBlue, specialize in this global market.

Comments & Questions:

GeoBlue Xplorer Long Term International Health Plans

GeoBlue International Travel Health InsuranceGeoBlue Xplorer is a long-term International Medical insurance plan specifically designed to support the international lifestyles of those who travel to or from the U.S. from extended periods of business, leisure and study.

If you leave home for six months or more, your health and financial security are at serious risk because of significant lack of medical protection, when the person travels outside their country borders.

The GeoBlue Xplorer Premier plan “includes” coverage in the U.S.  The Xplorer Essential plan “excludes” coverage in the U.S.

GeoBlue Xplorer “Select” plan … if a person has pre-existing conditions, the Xplorer “Select” plan may be a good choice.  It requires having an underlying health insurance plan in place, such as a group health plan or Medicare.  The Select plan goes through a “limited” underwriting process, which allows more enrolments with pre-existing coverage to be approved.

Around-the-Clock Assistance Call Center:  GeoBlue maintains a 24/7, toll-free call center to assist GeoBlue members with everything from routine requests to medical emergencies.  The GeoBlue staff has years of experience with international medical assistance and has close working relationship with its international Provider Community.

Emergency Evacuation and Centers of Excellence:  GeoBlue coordinates emergency services with a worldwide network of contracted Physician Advisors as well as air ambulance operators selected for their safety records.  Members in need of life-saving medical intervention are treated in Centers of Excellence in the U.S. and around the world, whenever possible.

Easy Access to an Elite International Provider Community:  GeoBlue has a network of doctors from almost every specialty in over 180 countries to see you.  Only a small fraction of doctors around the world meet GeoBlue standards.

Participation is by invitation only.  We seek out professionals certified by the American or Royal Board of Medical Specialties who speak English,  and we factor in recommendations by over 148 Physician Advisors from all over the world.  then we assemble in-depth profiles so our members can choose with confidence, and we put formal contracts in place to ensure patient access.  Once they’ve seen you, GeoBlue doctors bill us directly so you don’t have to file a claim.  In the U.S. you have cashless access to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield network in all fifty states.

How the Plan Works … GeoBlue Xplorer Premier and GeoBlue Xplorer Essential plans offer comprehensive benefits and a range of deductible options that allow members to select the right amount of insurance coverage for their budget and lifestyle.  For detailed benefits please see the brochure.  For families, the deductible and coinsurance maximum is a multiple of 2.5.  After 364 days of continuous coverage, GeoBlue Xplorer members may re-enroll (continue their plan) in a plan that matches their existing benefits.

How to Apply … Applications are available online or may be initiated by telephone or email (call 916-682-1117 or email to start the enrollment process).  A personal check, money order or credit card number must accompany the application and must be sufficient to pay for one month of standard premium.  GeoBlue will hold the form of payment until an underwriting decision is made.

If your application is accepted, the payment will be applied to your account.  Quotes obtained online or by telephone are advisory only.  Actual premium is determined by the medical underwriting process.  GeoBlue will review your medical history as provided on the application and may request an Attending Physician’s Statement.  GeoBlue publishes standard premium rates for non-smokers.

Smokers and other applicants with certain medical histories may be offered a policy at a higher rate.  Not all applicants will be accepted.  Your effective date of insurance will be on the 1st or 15th day of the month following underwriting approval.

GeoBlue Xplorer is ideal for:  Employees on foreign assignment, International Students, U.S. inbound and outbound protection, expatriates, third country nationals, high risk areas or anyone leaving their home country for an extended period of time for work, study or to simply to live.

Comprehensive medical coverage designed for individuals, families and employer groups, short and long-term for both inbound and outbound locations. Global medical coverage along with access to the finest medical professionals possible wherever you are in the world.

Coverage includes; hospital care, outpatient services, prescription drugs, maternity care, lab and X Ray, annual screenings and preventive care and most other comprehensive medical services.  Access to an elite network of doctors, hospitals and specialists in over 180 countries.

Is renewal guaranteed under this policy? You can enroll in a GeoBlue Xplorer policy up to age 74. The policy does not automatically renew upon your request. You will be notified of your new plan rate at least 30 days prior to your policy expiration date. You must confirm your new policy rate in writing or by accepting the rate when logged in to our secure website. Plan rates are based on age at time of enrollment and are impacted by medical inflation. You will not be asked any medical questions and your personal health history will not determine your new rate. GeoBlue Xplorer rates are standard rates for all re-enrolling members. Rates are reviewed and approved by state insurance regulators, which protects your rights and guarantees fairness. By contrast, offshore/surplus lines insurers are not required to file rates for approval.

Do your plans cover maternity? After 364 days of continuous coverage, GeoBlue Xplorer members are eligible to enroll in a new plan that covers maternity costs in the same way as all other conditions. Members do not need to submit a new health statement.

How much will the price increase next year upon renewal? Plan rates are based on age at time of enrollment and are impacted by medical inflation. You will not be asked any medical questions and your personal health history will not determine your new rate. GeoBlue Xplorer rates are standard rates for all reenrolling members. Rates are reviewed and approved by state insurance regulators, which protects your rights and guarantees fairness. By contrast, offshore/surplus lines insurers are not required to file rates for approval.

Are preexisting conditions covered? If you were previously covered by a group or individual U.S. health plan that issued you a Certificate of Creditable Coverage, GeoBlue will apply this prior coverage to the pre-existing conditions waiting period, provided you meet GeoBlue’s medical underwriting criteria. GeoBlue will also consider private health insurance issued in other countries as creditable coverage. GeoBlue does not consider surplus lines insurance sold in the U.S. as creditable coverage. The number of months of coverage shown on the Certificate will reduce or eliminate the six month pre-existing condition waiting period. If you have six or more months of creditable coverage, your waiting period will be eliminated. If you have less than six months creditable coverage, your waiting period will be reduced by the number of months you had creditable coverage.

Can the member keep this when they come home? Yes, for a maximum of 9 months. The Long Term plans stipulate that applicants intend to spend 3 or more months outside their home country per policy period.

Are prescriptions covered? Yes, the policy includes retail and mail order prescription drug coverage whether members are inside and outside the U.S. If a prescription drug is unavailable in a country outside the U.S. GeoBlue makes arrangements to ship the medication directly to the member.

GeoBlue International Travel Insurance

GeoBlue International Travel Health InsuranceInternational Medical Coverage for illness or accident. Designed for global travel for Expatriates, International Students, Employees, Contractors, Third Country Nationals, vacations or anyone; working, studying, traveling or living outside their home country borders.  Domestic health insurance or Medicare coverage typically provides little and often no coverage outside of a persons home country.

3 Reasons:

  1. Your domestic health insurance or Medicare, provides little and often no coverage outside of your home country.
  2. Emergency Medical Evacuation – in the event of a serious injury or illness, your GeoBlue International Medical Insurance policy will provide 24/7 concierge services which include global specialists coordinating your air or ground emergency transportation to the nearest facility which can treat your condition.  And that includes flying you to another country or back to your home country for care.  Domestic insurance will not coordinate these services or pay for the costs.  This is very important coverage.
  3. Find a local doctor, and one who speaks your language, fill a prescription, make a doctors appointment, maternity coverage, psychiatric care, see a specialist.  All of these services and more are included in a GeoBlue International Travel Insurance plan, along with much more.  And remember .. your domestic coverage doesn’t help with these services while abroad.

Domestic Health insurance companies are simply not designed to help clients abroad.  And typically provide no coverage while outside the U.S.

GeoBlue for example, has an elite network of doctors and hospitals from most every specialty ready to see you in over 180 countries.  And only a small fraction of doctors around the world meet GeoBlue’s exacting standards – participation is by invitation only.  We seek out professionals certified by the American or Royal Board of Medical Specialties who speak English, and they factor in recommendations by over 158 Physician Advisors from all over the world.

Technology has made it very easy to travel worldwide.  A few clicks on your Mobile phone or tablet, allows you to utilize the GeoBlue App anywhere in the world:  Find and access International doctors and hospitals.  Gain access to in-depth profiles and carefully selected doctors, dentists, hospital and clinics around the world.

Senior Travel Insurance

GeoBlue International Travel Health InsuranceMore Seniors are traveling and living abroad then ever before, in fact, people over 50 make up the vast majority of travelers worldwide.

Seniors also pay more for travel insurance – but are also more likely to use it.  Be careful, you are NOT covered by Medicare abroad.  Medicare provides no coverage while outside the U.S. and Medicare Supplement coverage is very limited when traveling abroad.  Also, Medicare or your Medicare Supplement will pay for your medical evacuation back to the United States. Medical evacuation can easily cost $25,000 or more if a nurse needs to accompany you on the return flight.

GeoBlue, a U.S. based International Travel Medical insurance company guarantees coverage and waives pre-existing conditions if you have an underlying medical plan like Medicare for their “Voyager” plans which provide comprehensive coverage worldwide for up to 6 months, for anyone age 84 or younger.  They also have long term plans for anyone wishing to live overseas for an indefinite period of time.  Click here for example Travel Medical Quotes.

medical evacWhy is insurance so critical for international travel?  Standards of hospitals and clinics vary greatly from country to country.  While you may find some that offer high quality care, you are also likely to find some that are considered to be “well below average” and even in poor condition.  In most cases an International Travel Medical Insurance plan is crucial for those needing acute care and even basic care. Obtaining healthcare in some parts of the world can be tricky. Some hospitals won’t provide any treatment–or won’t allow a patient to be discharged–until the hospital has received a guarantee of payment. Such guarantees are provided by Travel Insurance companies, in conjunction with assistance providers, but rarely by other insurers or managed care plans. This means you’ll have to pay in advance, perhaps as much as tens of thousands of dollars, with your credit card. Of course, for this to work the hospital must accept foreign credit cards and your card must have a sufficient credit limit.
